I was just put on the Safety Committee here at work (please note the joy I'm experiencing) and they want to know if there is software that I can load on everyones machine that will, from the main computer down at the receptionists desk, receive notification in an emergency situation. This would preferably be a "one click" type thing and the notification on the users end could be anything from a pop-up to an email.

Does anyone have any experience with software that would do this? Any suggestions on where to start (aside from Google...thanks)?

Typically this is what a fire alarm is for... or an overhead paging system. Get critical information to users via computer has a ton of shortcomings.

To start, you could use the built in messenger service in Windows. It's typically disabled for security purposes. You can use it via a net send command.

I've heard some very good stuff about this program. It might be more than you're looking for though.

If you skip over the computer part and go for cell phone notification (and email and RSS, so computer would be an option) my workplace just implemented e2Campus which worked well in our tests.
