Was looking at this:

I rarely buy fans but I want to replace one in my new CM 690. I've never seen a fan listed with open or closed corners, is the standard closed? What is the difference?

the open corners are easier to mount to SOME heatsinks with clips, or to use the shorter rubber fan mounts. Open corners are just plain easier/more compatible if you're not sure which to get.

it is at the corner where the mounting holes are.

Closed corner there is one continous hole, a tube if you will.

Open corner is (hard to explain) the space between the top and bottom of the fan frame is open. there are two distinct holes on 'ears' at the corner, its all about what and where you will be mounting the fan, most of the time it does not matter open vs closed.

Hmm looking for pics.

Here is an OPEN. see how the holes are separate.
