I need a new Heatsink/Fan and I was considering getting the Zalman CNPS 9700 NT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118020) off of Newegg.

It uses a backplate and I have a Nvidia 680i mobo that I got when they first came out near the end of 2006. I heard about some problems with Heatsink/Fans with backplates and the 680i. The blackplate messing or interfering with something on the back of the mobo.

Would the backplate on this one be a problem? I really need a new Heatsink/Fan because the one that came with my E6600 is loose and I can't get it to fit tight.

Any help would be appreciated. Suggestions for a different Heatsink/Fan are also welcome.

On some of the 650i and 680i motherboards, there are surface mount components which interfere with the backplate on the Zalman coolers.

Here is a post showing the offending components on my MSI P6N SLI Platinum board (650i)

You'll be fine, the older boards had a component that would be in the way. The easy solution was just to cut a notch in the backplate to avoid contact. It's about a 30 second job.

Ya thats what I had to do with mine. Got an exacto knife and trimmed it. Fit perfect been fine since this time last year.

I guess I'll go ahead and order it. I'll just have to mod the backplate a little to get it to fit correctly.

I was going to order some more RAM too, so I guess I get both at the same time.
