Isn't it always the way - you finally get everything onto one drive where you want it and the drive goes and becomes unrecognisable to your computer.... something about the USB device malfunctioning
The diagnosis says that it requires a driver so somethings gone wrong as it's a plug and play device the driver is held on the ext hard drive which isn't recognized so thats a catch 22 situation. I've looked all over for the driver on the web but the only place that has it is the WD website which will only let you download it if its been bought from a particular store (which it wasn't).

Can anyone help me?

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to technical matters but I would have thought that if someone out there has the same WD harddrive then they could send me the driver?
Probably too simplistic.

Any help would be gratefully accepted. All my music is on there in addition to photos and documents from the last couple of years....

You may be able to get some tips from this thread (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1255337).

Good Luck!

Hi Old Hippie - checked that thread before I started this one and followed it as best I could (ie. up to the point where people start mentioning taking casings off!) and there doesn't appear to be any problem - just that it states that no drivers are installed for the device.

I should point out that I have 2 external hard drives, both WD and the other one works like a dream at present.

Any ideas that don't involve invalidating warranties or taking things apart?

All seems to be sorted now - just sorted itself out it seems - have bought new external harddisk and backed all up so here's hoping that doesn't balls up!
Cheers for the help anyhow.
