Very slow transfers

I just bought a used sata drive from the forums. Its a maxtor 250gb. I got it to store movies and such. Anyways hooked it all up, its recognized, everything seems to be ok. However when I go to transfer my files from one harddrive to another it takes FOREVER...

a single 700mb file took about 2:30 minutes.


I have 2 other drives (ones sata ones IDE) and the same file transfers in about 15-20 seconds between them.


Any suggestions?

edit: between the maxtor and my other backup is taking like 7 minutes.... something is not right... faulty?

I have this problem too. I think its my motherboard. my raptor and two 500 mb seagate drives have a burst rate of 4.5 mb/s according to HD tach. It takes forever to burn a full dvd at 16x too, like 50 minutes when it should take 5.

also my usb ports are acting screwy and any time there's a lot of network activity my system slows significantly. im ordering a new mobo in the next week.
