Hey there.
I have a copy of this..
And I'm pondering installing it.. any advice? with Vista now out are their drivers available for this?
Or should I go with Vista Ultimate 32bit instead?

Wow, what is with these threads lately?
I know that is sounds rude, but how are we supposed to answer the drivers question without knowing your hardware specs? XP x64 drivers were in great shape even before Vista was released. Take a look at the hardware and peripherals, and then download all the drivers to have handy, if you plan to go to XP x64.
As for Vista, Vista x64 is definitely the way to go. The decision to go with either XP or Vista is something only you can decide...and not one of us. Both are very legitimate choices and both work extremely well.

Hmm sorry decon I suppose i was just asking in a very general sense.
I'm getting an Asus P5KC motherboard. intel Q6600, and for now an older 7600GT and a XI fi elite pro.
Thats most of it really.
I may go with Vista 64 as I heard you can request the 64bit disks from MS if you allready have 32bit.

New machine = New OS = Go ahead and work with Vista x64.
Old machine = trying to get more life from it and want better performance with 64 bit capability = XP x64.
XP x64 has had driver support for a long time now, but the constant bickering among the ignorant, uninformed, and just plain stupid people out there (and around here) consistently keeps XP x64 out of the hands of the very people that might love it more than XP 32 bit by a huge gigantic wide margin.
You can get a trial version of XP x64 from Microsoft and use it till your Vista x64 DVDs arrive. Hell, after getting the Vista x64 DVD and installing it, you just might find yourself longing to go back to XP x64 because it kicks ass.
Good luck...

In that case, you really can't lose. You have a perfectly viable OS right now for the system, and if you decide to upgrade to Vista now or down the road, you'll be ready for it as well.

Another fan of XP64 checking in. I run it on my desktop and laptop and have no complaints at all.
Vista is inevitable I think, and I ran Vista64 on my laptop for a while, but the resources it took were a little too much for the things I was doing. Virtualization especially chews up RAM and hard disk, which my laptop was a little cramped on. XP64 runs much lighter on resources but I still use 64-bit software. I got 64-bit Firefox, newsreader, bittorrent, Virtualbox.. I even got a very primitive 64-bit IRC client the other day, because 64-bit makes IRC more better!*
*- it does not actually help at all I think.. it's IRC for crying out loud!

I've said it before in XP x64 discussion threads, and I'll say it again:
It just works.
'Nuff typed.

I haven't (yet) run into any games or 32-bit apps that refused to run. I play Final Fantasy XI mostly, but I also have the Valve Orange Box (Portal, TF2 installed and rocking), Tribes II, Age of Empires III, Rise of Nations, UT2004 (64-bit edition) and whatever else I've tried. I haven't had to use compatiblity mode or anything.
The one public issue is the newer Apple i-things, like iPhone, and iPods that came out since then. They have no 64-bit Windows drivers for some reason.

Oh, there's a reason... a very good one, and a very well known one... pssttt, I'll let you in on it: Apple doesn't want anyone claiming 64 bit goodness for iPods/iPhones but them... aka Leopard. People will say I'm insane but... let's face it: Apple doesn't want people using Vista with their products, period, they really don't because it means they have to spend time supporting the products when people have the inevitable issues. It's not all Microsoft's blame in this respect: Apple simply wants to keep things in-house, basically.
Funny how that works considering if Apple hadn't finally provided Windows support for iPods years ago the iPod would never have become as popular as it is right now. There simply aren't that many Apple Mac owners out there to justify the popularity of iPods - that happened when it was opened up and usable on Windows PCs. That's when the damned things really shot high on the "OMFG I MUST HAVE ONE" scale.

There are many reasons why they are dragging their feet on this one, but my guess is, so they can create more bullshit commercials stating all the wonderful, glorious things that a Mac can do that a PC can't. One of these days, I'm going to shoot my own commercials comparing the two, and pop them up on YouTube. I have a few ideas that would be humorous and factual.

That's odd though, since the older stuff all has 64-bit support. My iPod Nano works fine in Vista64 and XP64.
Isolating this stuff from 64-bit Windows users isn't going to help them any. If anything it will hinder them, and only push more people towards stuff like virtualization (which 64-bit Windows has free solutions for) and things like, oh, running OS X on non-Macs for instance.
