I'm looking for the best overall HD, in terms of performance and reliability.

I have my eye on a few ATM, the Spinpoints, Barracudas and the WD HD's. I've had a quick glance at their performance on Tom's Hardware charts and they all seemed roughly the same, however some were quite a bit better at reading for example or writing. I just want to know which one would be the best performer overall and would stay that way for a while.

I'm planning on using the new 500GB HD as a primary HD and having my 320GB Seagate as a storage drive if that's of any help.

Any advice would be appreciated. :D

I'd say this is a really good hard drive

Hmm, it's pretty expensive and I don't think that I will be able to find it in the UK...

I like the WD5000AAKS because they're fast, AND quiet.

The newer Samsung SpinPoints are very good too, very quiet and good single-user drives.

TechReport's storage section has a lot a lot of good reviews. Check those out. My vote goes to the WD5000AAKS, a consistently good performer that is very quiet.

I liked mine 'till it failed. Waiting on replacement now...
