After installing a fresh vista on my laptop I attached my external usb mouse to it and it worked great. After Vista downloaded and installed all the patches it did not work anymore.
How do I get my mouse working again? The touchpad works but I hate using that.
It comes up in device manager with a yellow mark on where the mouse goes and says driver not found.

What kind of mouse is it (brand?)
And I'm not being a smart ass, but do you have a driver disc for the mouse, or are there drivers available from the manufacturer?

I've seen this type of thing before, for some reason the driver is "forgotten".
Try this. In Device Manager, right click on the mouse driver with the yellow exclamation mark then select "Update Driver Software...".
On the next dialog screen click on the section option "Browse my computer for driver software". In the directory path at the top, set the path to "C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore" and click the "Include subfolders" checkbox below the directory path. Click the "Next" button and wait for the driver to reinstall and that should do it.
If this fails to work, you could also just download and install the driver for your particular mouse.

It's just a generic usb mouse that came with the asus laptop.
I also tried another usb mouse and same thing.

Did you try my steps? I've seen the exact same problem with mice and other devices with my Toshiba Tablet PC and that process always fixed the problem for me.
Good luck!

So when you tried to this and you got the Installing Drivers dialog, did it end up saying that it could not locate the drivers?

If other USB devices are causing you problems as well, you may need your chipset drivers reloaded.
