I came back from vacation to find one of my Mushkin PC26400 5-4-4-12 2.0V sticks dead. I'm going to RMA them, but I figure with ram being so cheap, might as well grab some new stuff then sell the old stuff or keep it depending on what comes back and what decision I make on the new ram.

Mushkin PC2 6400 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800 5-4-4-12 (1.8V)

or

OCZ (OCZ2RPR800C44GK) Reaper 4GB DDR2 2X2GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL 4-4-4-15 Memory Kit (2.1V)

or

Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-6400(800MHz) CL 4-4-4-12 Low Latency DIMM Kit (2.2V)

All are within a few dollars of each other, I like the Muskin RAM for the lower voltage BUT since my previous RAM fried, I'm leary of going Mushkin for my system now. Part that really bugs me is that I was running the ram at the ram's stock settings, not overclocked when it died. Now I know no 2 ram modules are the same and that a 4 timing vs a 5 timing is virtually dead heat in real world performance so that's why the Mushkin is still under consideration. Unless someone on here mentions that either of those kits has a high failure rate, the Mushkin would be my first option. This is despite my going through my SECOND 5-4-4-12 2.0v kit in <6 months. 1.8v implies new chips and the new part number of the memory implies it.

I think this is why we need an updated guide... no one's really sure anymore on the latest DDR2 options...

Anyways, as an update to this, I got the Mushkin ram and it's working at 450MHZ at 5-4-4-12 with 1.8V. I tested it under memtest for a good 3 hours, I'll leave it running overnight to be sure.
