I just recently installed vista ultimate x64 on my new rig (see sig) and i originally had the IRCQ_LESS_EQUAL or whatever error. I got passed that by removing 2 gb of ram. Now when i try to put in the other 2 gig i get an unknown blue screen without any sort of message or error codes. I can fix this by taking out the other 2 gigs of ram and then vista boots fine. Any ideas? let me know if you need any other information.

Wouldent bad memory cause my computer to not post? rather than just crashing windows?

Those seem to only apply to xp not vista

Typical PCs (and even most servers) do not do thorough memory checks when they boot. They simply perform a quick scan to see how much is there and they run with it. You can definitely have bad memory.

Yea thats an easy fix...i guess it makes sense i was being a moron and kinda forgot to unplug my computer from my wall before putting the memory in ::smacks head:: ah well a 5 minute return and a lesson learned...i just hope its not the ram ports on the board..

Drivers are the cause of an IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN error more than 99% of the time in my entirely too long career of fixing Windows issues, from the early days to Vista and beyond. Badly coded drivers that simply don't function correctly are the Achille's Heel of Windows - not Windows itself.

It could be bad drivers OR an IRQ conflict with other hardware in your PC. Sometimes to overcome this, you could take out stuff like your sound card and see if that fixes it. If that does fix it, you could try to put that card in a different slot to see if that helps.

Of course, this is just a off hand suggestion, considering I've not had a problem that required me to do anything like that since the days of Windows 98. I've not seen IRQ conflicts on modern systems. But x64 bit has probably created some resurgence of some old problems. Either way, I'm going x64 very soon.

Just off the cuff, are you running any unsigned drivers, aka not "officially sanctioned" 64 bit drivers with the Microsoft digital signature on them, or pressing F8 at boot time to disable the driver signing enforcement - or heaven forbid have you disabled that permanently?

Just curious...

Nope not running any drivers at all actually it happens before im able to install them. Also like i said before im chalking it up to bad ram so im going to go return it and exchange it. Also maybe running windows update would help?

Like Vista64 doesn't have the infamous 4 gig memory error built in? It's probably the same issue hundreds of users have stumbled upon.
