I'm building a NAS box and wanted some advice on which of these platforms to use. I've read about some problems with data recovery with freenas but the pages were 1 year old. Do these problems still exist? Is there any advantage to using openfiler or naslite?

Openfiler is 3rd choice for me so far because I dont want to use a dedicated drive for it, but I'm open to being convinced.

I am not using software raid. I bought a rocketraid "software assisted" raid (ie no onboard XOR chip) so the software raid performances of tese platforms are irrelevant.

Any suggestions or tips would be welcome. Please give some detail and your personal experiences. Thanks!

freenas.
because...
[a real good howto (link) , which I have written down and
haphazardly filed where i'll run across it only by
luck... (sorry!) ] I thought it was at freenas.org but
just checked that and didn't find it.
