I bought two Western Digital Caviar RE2 WD4000YR as it was a deal and got them for $0.17/gig and after I bought them I find out they are made for servers with their TLER feature it expects to be paired with a RAID controller and WD recommends not using this drive in desktops. I can stop the delivery guy tomorrow and refuse the packages and I will not be charged but my question is what if I put these hard drives into raid in my desktop? Is it different than a server? Or if I disable the TLER, shown here http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1191548, would it make it a normal hard drive or is this something I would still have to worry about? Any advice on this would be great.
