I'm planning on picking up a 1TB hard drive for my gaming rig I'm building in a few weeks, but I can't decide between the Hitachi and Seagate models. The primary concern for me is speed, though I also want a drive that's quiet... so which would probably be the better choice?

All I could find on a head to head, Storage Review doesn't seem to have anything that I can find using their search for the 7200.11.

There was a review from tomshardware on 11/05/07 that covers this. Just go to their storage section.

StorageReview says the Hitachi wins for speed.

I like the OS+Program drive / data drive(s) paradigm, and the WD "GP" uses 50 to 70% of the power while still being absolutely fine for single-user data storage. All modern desktop drives are reasonably quiet, even the 10,000 RPM WD Raptors. However the WD 1TB drive is also significantly quieter than the others. If you're only getting one drive to use for everything, I would be looking at the Hitachi.
