Ever since I updated to vista my upload speed has dropped. I have fios 20/5 but I am only getting about 20/2.5 I hooked up my old xp machine to my router and I got 20/5. Obviously vista is to blame. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Possibly Vista 'taking care of you' with it's QOS implementation. Try disabling QOS and see if it helps.

I know I see lots of problems on Vista(Crapsta) with LAN/WLAN.
If you use a router try enabling UPNP, around 25% af the time it solves network problems in Windows Crapsta.
Try looking at you TCP-protocol, try eg. this:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/TCP-Optimizer.shtml

And I know this is no consolation to you, but you are not alone, I have seen first hand the volume of problems Crapsta causes on networks where XP is doing fine.

We have an unofficial "rule", if people compalin about anything network related, we ask them to try under XP first, that does the trick 99% of the time.

But why are we beeing made bug-testers by Microsoft?!
I feel like they should pay part of my wage, since my time is being wasted with their Crapsta bugs...

Many of the current issues, including network and printing slowness are going to be fixed in SP1. As for answering your question: The same reason why my fedora box has 200'ish updates/fixes available the moment I install it and that OSX comes out with an "update" every year that they make you pay for. EVERY OS does that, Microsoft isn't alone in its use and abuse of users.

To the OP though; Try turning off your Vista Firewall and ensure your network is set to a "private" network. You should also ensure you are running the latest vista certified network drivers available for your laptop. If you're using what came with Vista during the upgrade, that may be part of the issue.
