So has anyone noticed that when running microsoft software its impossible to get everything the same shade of black. See I have the zune them installed and media player 11 (which I use alot) and mp11 is a different shade than the xp task bar which is also a completely different shade than the start menu...it maka no sense! (in very mario'ish italian accent). Any way here is a screenshot of what im talking about. Also does anyone know where to get other xp themes...themes that do not require third party software installation (no object desktop or windowblinds bs is getting on my baby, ive made that mistake too many times)

I think you are confused here.

You said "Microsoft" needs to standardize...

Sorry- but you skinning XP is not a "Microsoft" issue, that is an issue with whoever designed that theme.

And, at least in Vista (since it looks to me like you are trying to go for the "look" of Vista), the shading differences are an advantage, not a disadvantage.
I, for one, don't want an OS that uses the same shading and colors throughout... Vista at least employs some shading which makes it easier to distinguish things.
FWIW Vista's colors do change when you do things such as minimize/maximize windows and the like... IMO it is much easier to see what you are doing.

He didn't skin XP. That's a theme created by Microsoft, you can download it from their site.

Oh, and this thread is racist.

I'm not sure what your complaint is here. Everything looks normal in your screenshot. I think you may be confusing the dull black with the shiny "themed" black. If not, this may be a new low of what people complain to MS about.
Oh, and this thread is racist.
Now that's funny!

I think his point is that the Windows theme color scheme is different from the Media Player theme color scheme. They're both supposed to be 'black' but you end of with different shades from the exact same company.

I agree that in most cases shading is good for drawing the attention of the eye. However, in this case it is discordant and actually hinders the GUI.

Isn't that the Zune theme?

Do yourself a favor and patch your uxtheme.org and grab a nice Vista .msstyles from customize.org. No penalty hit from having some 3rd party app modify styles in RAM, and you can even change the explorer toolbars with Styler if you really want too. It's the "free" way of skinning XP to look like Vista.

WMP11 is more native to vista....so...if you're really worried about it, upgrading to vista will give you the look you want lol. or do what the guy above me said. your choice.

this is a funny thread lol

there's just something wrong about trying to make xp look like vista...

a lot of the the way the gui works is due to the fact aero uses the 3d engine of the graphics card...

and I'm kinda the opposite... I made my vista look like xp... and I made my xp look like 2k...

scary stuff...

I don't see the problem.
Differences in themes are there for a reason... I even think CLASSIC Windows has shading/color variations.

Microsoft isn't one huge happy family- there are many departments. Heck, some divisions had minor issues with Vista when it came out! Yet, they are all under the same company... hmmm...

FWIW here is comparision of WMP to Vista... I still don't see the huge problem with it. Unless DFrost was right: "this may be a new low of what people complain to MS about."
