For some reason I can't run the (Pioneer DVD) executable firmare update in Vista. I see fro an instant, a DOS screen, then nothing, and the firmware is not updated. Any ideas?

Do the instructions say it can be done from windows? You may have to boot from a dos floppy and flash it like you do a BIOS flash.

Make sure you're running the application at elevated account level.
Right click the .exe and "run as administrator".

The instruction made no mention of running it from DOS.
I did try running it in "administrator".

It may not work in Vista x64, because a) it's set up to use a 32-bit device driver, or b) the app is 16-bit (the presence of a command window may suggest this). You could try checking off the XP SP2 compatibility mode, but I doubt that would help.
If Pioneer doesn't have a Vista 64 version, I don't know what to tell you other than to do it in XP somehow.

Yes, I wondered if it was one of those X64 "features", probably so. :(
Thanks for the feedback.
