hello.
I've just installed Vista ultimate on my PC as an upgrade from Media Center Edition 05. CS:S plays fine, except for its slowness, its not lagging, fraps is telling me that I'm getting 55 fps, but when i jump, i end up jumping a slit second after, when i press the fire button, it fires a little bit later. its like everything i do happens a little bit later even when walking, or buying a weapon.
anybody have a solution?

Does it happen on all servers? Have you restarted your system to see if any change occurs? Have you updated your drivers and attempted to reinstall source? Have you lowered all graphical settings to see if there's a change?
Basically, what have you tried to do to change it, if anything?

That's an odd problem. I'm running CS:S under Vista. The only thing I can think of is that you have something hogging resources in the background.

that would be my guess as well as I am running Vista and play CS:S all the time .. my only complaint is that I only play on one group of servers and when I used to be low 60's with my ping ...now I am over 100 since my isp switched from PPPOA to PPPOE ..
local hicktown with only one dsl provider ...darn
check your resources ..is CS:S the only game you experience this problem? ..is this the only online game that you play in which you experience this problem ? Do you get same type of behavior if you playin HL2 off line?

Sounds like either input lag or server lag, check your pings on the servers you're playing on, if it's not that then check for Vsync being on, make sure to check both the in game settings and the drivers settings if there's a profile for CSS. Vsync causes massive input lag for me in source games and Bioshock especially.

I have tried restarting the system, my Nvidia drivers are 162.22, i get the 'slowness' even when i create my own server. i've tried deleting client.blob in the steam directory, and i have installed many, many vista Hotfixes still no luck. ive just finished changing the nvidia program profile stuff and about to test it.

that is too be expected, everything on my system slowed down allot, i suggest u get a program called freeRAMXPPro, run it just before u start a game and u should get a bit of a performance boost. all of my games slowed down, the only exception is Rainbow Six Vegas which got boosted from 7fps to about 30fps.

I still say that it's a program running in the background sucking up resources.

open the dev console and type in net_stat 3 and it will show your details on your screen of lag, fps, choke all those goodies

I have the same issue you do. One map does the same exact thing, but other maps are fine....

is it on custom maps or stock?
many people cant make customs maps for crap and add too much detail, cant recall the term but is like details, too many it kills it, add's lag and drop FPS.

For some reason i managed to fix it by maxing out all the settings in nvidia control panel for the css profile, and now the lag is gone, how that works i will never know.

As I said before, this is probably because Vsync is on, it can be forced in your driver profile.

if you haven't already turn off vista SideBar. that thing is a memory hog.

Yeah sidebars always off, dont like it anyway, vsync is off, yet i still get low(er) fps.

CS:S has always performed horribly in Vista 64 bit for me. My hardware isn't the greatest but I easily have my fps over 100 on most maps in XP but in Vista as soon as there is any action on the screen it goes way down making it impossible to aim. It feels almost like everything is choking. Guess I will try the control panel trick myself and see if it helps.
