Hello!

I've been given the task of salvaging a hard drive from a circa 1997 Pentium 266 gateway laptop. The laptop hdd was upgraded to an 80 gig unit, so I got an xcraft 250 into which I intended to put it. No dice, it was never recognized by windows (or Linux). No problem, I thought, I stuck it into a spare laptop I had sitting around, and it booted win98, and then went black. My thoughts on this were that the graphics driver was probably incompatible, but as win98 started booting, the hard drive was operational. So then I downloaded Ubuntu 7.04, and throw it into the laptop. It's a celeron 2.2, so it should be able to handle Ubuntu. but it just freezes.

Throw me some advice as to what to do with this HDD, I'm at a loss of how to proceed to extract the data.

Thanks for suggestions!

so you have put it in a enclosure im assuming the xcraft 250 is this

but it wasn't recognized... you stuck it in another laptop it kinda worked but didn't. i would probably try using a different adapter I have a 2.5 usb adapter siting next to me i use as a coaster it has a 4 gig drive in it... This one cost me 10 bucks at newegg it takes 2 usb ports and requires no drivers...

if that doesn't work i am going to have to say the drive is non recoverable well it is you just need a clean room and a identical drive that works to transfer the platters to...
