View Full Version : Can a scsi drive be damaged by bad power?
Hello there! Just wondering if it is at all possible to mess up a new Maxtor Atlas II drive because of PSU problems? The PSU I have is good(Silverstone Zeus) but it was used.
The drive doesn't spin at all!
And if a xxx drive doesn't spin, does that mean it is end of the story?
A bad PSU could indeed damage any drive. But if this drive is SCSI make sure it's either jumpered to auto-spin on power, or the SCSI controller is sending the start command.
You made my day! So there is a chance the drive is still ok. I actually suspect my old adaptec 29160 controller because it has a loose cap, although it is detected successfully in device manager.
I only connected power to it, and it didn't spin.
