Will a Raid Controller Card out perform an onboard raid. These will be set up in Raid 0 and will be using two Raptors 150's. I plan on using an external drive for my back ups. I am really just concerned with the everyday "feel" of these drives. Benchmarks don't really mean anything to me. I just like my computer to boot fast and feel snappy. I've been using the onboard setups in my last two builds. I am just wondering if a card will make things feel quicker.
Here are the two I'm looking at. These will be used with Vista Ultimate 64
HighPoint RocketRAID 2210 PCI-X SATA II Controller Card RAID 0/1/5/10 JBOD ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16816115033)
areca ARC-1210 PCI-Express x8 SATA II Controller Card RAID 0/1/1E/3/5 JBOD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816131003)
Would I just be wasting my money? Or, will one of these be a worthwhile investment? Will something else fit my needs better? I really don't want to spend more than I need to.
