I've been working a lot recently with MS Word 2007 and I don't really like it. Too many things are pissing me off.

Here's what I am looking for in a good word processor:

Unicode support
Full screen support (editing text in full screen)
Custom margins
Font smoothing
Custom background/foreground
Header/Footer support
*Light on ressources is a bonus

Freeware or shareware I don't care but it must support Windows Vista.
If you have a suggestion please let me know.

Thank you

Well, there is always the option to use Microsoft Office 2003 if you don't like the new layout of 2007. Obviously it is very different and lots of people who have been using Office since the 90's are having some issues.

Anyway, a good free alternative is the Open Office (openoffice.org) component Writer, it should support everything in your list. There are also some interesting alternatives like docs.google.com, but that is not an option for everyone.

I put Office 2007 on my new laptop because I was out of 2003 licenses. I didn't like it at first, but it's growing on me. I don't have a clue where anything is at, but it's not too bad.

OpenOffice is fairly developed now. I have it on my desktop. I don't do much with it except use Writer to type basic documents, but it does what it was made to do.

office 2007 is simply EXCITING.

The table of contents and biography/works cited features alone make it simply amazing.

Once you get past the layout, office 2k3 seems almost pathetic.
