I am after some headphones for gaming and maybe some music listening (Gaming primarly though). My question is do you have to have them plugged into the soundcard to get any kind of good quality? I say this because I really don't want to be going behind my PC every time I want to plug in some headphones. Will I not get the X-Fi effects if I plug them into my Z-5500 control pod? It would be nice to still get the positioning.

Whatever the case, I will be wanting some headphones that either plug into the Z-5500 pod, or into USB, so with that in mind, what would you recommend? (Don't really have a budget, although I don't want to go crazy).

Secondly I would like a mic that could maybe clip on to the headphones. I don't want a headset, as I want them to work separately without having to wear the headphones. Would it be possible to not use headphones, but still use a mic, and only hear my voice if I have a game running? Or will you still hear background noise like music etc. Is there any way to eliminate this? With that in mind, what is a good mic to get that I could clip onto the headphones?

Any help apprecaited.

For a microphone, Zalman do a pretty descent, and cheap, clip-on one. Although it doesn't clip onto headphones, you can clip it onto the wire or your shirt or something.
