I work for a small yet very active Sign and Vehicle Graphics shop. Before I joined this outfit, our boss purchased two HP Media Center PC's for use in our design phase. One in 2005 and one in 2006. Both of these machines are in serious need of a restore, and it has always been my experience that the best restart is a completely fresh start from a barebones OS. Not one pre-packaged with bloatware and "helpware" from HP and the like.
In the past, I would simply take the Operating system disk from the CD set that comes with the system and create a slipstream from this disk. Stripping away the HP bloat and updating the OS in the process.
However, both of these machines came without CD's. Not one. Instead, he was required to make a restore disk at the very beginning in lieu of an actual Operating system. We contacted HP to see if they would send us an actual copy of the OS (seeing as I can't find a working method of stripping JUST the OS from the restore disks), but they claimed that they were past their warranty period and that we had to repurchase restore disks. Actually receiving a copy of the operating system that we had purchased along with the original system.
Needless to say, this is quite infuriating.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how to strip the OS from this restore disks so that we don't have to repurchase XP Media Center, they would greatly appreciated. We're trying to get this figured out by tomorrow... didn't find out until today that we didn't have an actual Operating system disk...
TIA
