I just had windows crash on my raptor, and so now it wont boot. There are some files I want to get to so I put in a PATA drive with Windows XP already on it, and booted from that. But the raptor isn't showing up, what do I need to do to get Windows to see it?

I'm pretty sure windows won't see two installs of windows. you'd need some 3rd party data recovery software I think

I seriously doubt you need 3rd party recovery software - if all you need to do is grab some files, then your solution should work. Have you installed the SATA drivers for your motherboard?

If you have, and the BIOS detects your drive, then you should head into Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management and have a look to see if your SATA drive is in there. It's possible that it's detected fine, but there's a drive letter conflict (I've had this recently where USB drives weren't showing up on a client's computer).

Depending on hardware you may need to install sata drivers for your raptor to show up in windows. Other alternative is that your windows 'crashed' and wouldn't boot because the raptor died.

In which case nothing will bring your data back short of professional recovery procedures.

Disk Managment is usually the answer
you might have to initilize the disk in XP for it to see it
XP should have no issues with SATA drives, unless its an older board, then you might need chipset drivers

As stated above, start with Disk Management. That will tell you if the drive is even being recognized and/or if the partition is still intact.
