What didn't it do a year ago?

If you had compatibility problems before, they probably haven't changed in the past year for XP x64. In the past year, focus has shifted to Vista x64.

I wouldn't necessarily say you would have more support for it. I'm not sure what you mean by the second part, but it wouldn't suddenly just stop running 32 bit apps. If they worked before, they'll work again. If they didn't work before, they probably won't now.

The companies that did not bother writing decent, (non-beta), drivers for Xp64 a year ago, for the most part, still have not bothered.. Most newer game titles play fine in Xp64.. Some older ones still don't, and it is unlikely that they will be patched to run in Xp64... Anti-Virus and Spware removers and most productivity apps are, or have become compatible..

To answer your question directly:

No.

It's still the same as it was, overall. It was solid then and it's solid now (well, for me and a few others; everybody else that hated it before still hates it).

"Will every single program ever made ever since the dawn of time work absolutely 100% perfectly?"

No.

"Will a large percentage of more recent apps work and work acceptably well?"

Yes.

"Will every single hardware device ever made work with XP64?"

No.

"Will a reasonable amount of common hardware work with XP64?"

More or less.

XP64 requires research. Collect a list of your hardware. See what has XP64 drivers and what doesn't. See if people have had luck using Vista64 drivers to fill in the gaps (especially for things like printers). Then look at your software. Check websites that cater to 64-bit OS users. Check software makers' websites.

I run XP64 on a fairly vanilla gaming rig. So far, every game I have thrown at it works and works fantastic. Then again, my gaming is fairly limited. If you regularly enjoy dozens upon dozens of games, you will need to check every single title for compatiblity.

only thing that really changed was that SP2 came out
