Planning to get vista home premium upgrade.

Does the double install trick still work? I'm against installing XP then vista, thats dumb, and im against paying twive the price when I already paid for xp.

Thanks

If you read the FAQ sticky at top of page you'd have found this one:

I second that technique. The clean first install really does fly. For me, and some others (based on my Google search) discovered that sometimes the manual code entry for the upgrade version will not work. I ended up installing over the first install anyway.

Just bought windows vista premium home academic from academicsuperstore.com. Bah, 100$ instead of 180, thats quite a good price.

For some reason, I got a Delivery Status Notification (Delay) when i sent my eligibility data.... Re-sent.

Anyone bought from academicsuperstore before?

Thx

I did. No problems at all and fairly fast on shipping. I forgot a piece of documentation initially, but they emailed me about it the next day and I got it to them. Why $100? the site still says $69 http://www.academicsuperstore.com/market/marketdisp.html?PartNo=784207 which is what I payed...

CAN $...

we always pay more for no reason, because we get ripped off... honestly i dont know why. Can $ is .95US$, so it should be like 73$ CAN., not 99. but eh, go figure...

For some reason, I was getting postmaster (delayed) errors. Been trying for 2 days.

Called them, very good service, the guy sent me an email right away, I emailed him the ID, and they shipped my order.

I should get it soon.

Backorder for 1 week.....

Damn, I'm kinda badlucked. They will only ship it in 7 days(next monday), and then, a couple days for delivery.

Can I download the trial from microsoft and install, and then when I get my cd key, just activate?????? Will the trick work? Or not?

Nope. There's no such thing as a 'Vista trial version' on offer from Microsoft, and available for download. What people are talking about is a capability of the Vista install disk.

You can use any Vista install disk to put in place a 'trial' installation of any Vista version. You can do it on any machine, with any Vista disk. But the installation isn't publically available for download. And yes. If your Vista prodiuct key is for a "full' rather than an 'Upgrade' package, you can assign the key to the trial installation and activate it afterwards.

And why cant I just install the trial, and then "upgrade" oiver it with the upgrade version?

Won't upgrade over the trial?

Thx

You can, if you want. But I won't guarantee the activation/validation reliability of the end result.

Not for any other reason than that I haven't tested that particular variant of the technique enough, though. The real reason I suggest that you don't is that it'd take way longer to complete. A clean install (Vista's 'Custom install') is a quicker process. the upgrade install takes way longer because it has to calculate what needs to be retained from the existing install, move it safely out of the way, and then import it back in afterwards.
