View Full Version : Raise Vista Performance Score?

This is totally for e-penis reasons and e-penis alone :D because I'm sure it won't affect my actual performance that much, but I'm hoping someone can clue me into how to raise my vista scores. All my categories have 5.9 except for Processor and RAM, at 5.6 respectively. Processor is overclocked to 3GHZ (core 2 duo) and RAM is 4GB Patriot but its slow (ddr2 667). Do I need to overclock the RAM to raise the RAM score, and how could I possibly go higher on the processor without moving to quad core? 3GHZ is super fast with the core 2 duo.
Thanks!

The WinSAT score system has been long debated here and it's safe to say the general conclusion is:
It's utterly useless, and wasting time trying to eek out another point or tenth of a point isn't going to do anything except make your e-penis feel better. So it's quite refreshing to see someone that already knows this right up front and doesn't give a shit. :D
You could edit the .xml file and get 5.9 all the way, that's my suggestion. There isn't much you can do except overclock higher or mod the RAM timings for another tenth of a point or two. Aside from seriously fast RAM (DDR2 800) or the quad core CPU, you're going about as fast as you're going to go.
Be happy with it as it is and use it instead of letting it use you so much.

consider it more of an upgrade adviser than a performance score.

Indeed. If this is really going to bother you, that two of your scores are at 5.6, you probably should sell the PC and spend the cash on therapy. If you really want enjoyment out of it, load some games, or edit some video, etc.

yep, QTF
WinSAT is a bit weird. For example, here is my score in Vista x64 with an E4300 @ 3.1GHz, 4GB @ a little over 700MHz, a stock speed 7600GT and a 7200.10 PATA hard drive:

I've seen lower scores in several categories from people with faster hardware.
