I just got a new Barracuda 320gig 7200.10 drive and id like to know if its utilizing the sata2 bandwidth and not the 1.5?

I JUST ordered that drive from Newegg based on the positive reviews etc. From what I've read I think all you have to do is remove the jumper on the back to enable the 3.0 mode. Of course your mobo would have to support that and if it doesn't I think it defaults back to 1.5. If I'm wrong someone correct me lol.

Get HDTach 3, do a basic 8MB zone test. If the burst speed is well over 150MB/s, it's in SATA II mode, definitely. 150MB or less, SATA I mode.

What controller are you running it on? Do you think it'll make a difference?

i did this test on my hdd, and the test results say 176.9mb/s, is this SATA2 mode?
it's a SATA2 hdd

I would say yes, since SATA I transfers max out at ~150MB/s and you're well past that.
