Hi all.

This might sound like a noob question but, I am looking at replacing my 2 80GB IDE drives for 2 SATA 2.5" notebook hard drives, mainly because I want to build a silent home theater PC, so the question is, do the new SATA notebook drives work OK in a desktop PC? are the power and data connections identical?

I have been having a look around, and the logical answer to me is yes, but I wanted to check with someone who has actually done it before I go ahead and buy these drives.

Thanks in advance

Yes, that works. Same power and signal cables.

You can also get one of the nice 4-2.5" SATA hotswap cages that fit into a single height 5.25" slot.

Yea they will work. I've had some issues finding a good mounting bracket that will put 2 in a single 3.5 inch bay in the states. The brackets to mount them each in a 3.5 inch bay are easy to find though. Most of the time they come with the ide to notebook ide adapters, you just don't use those.

Why are you going for dual drives though? I'd just run a single drive and have it store the shows and whatnot on a media server in another room or something.

You might as well do a custom mount system with rubberbands. Complete silence FTW
