heres my setup:
ABIT IC7-G max 2

IDE1 Master - lite-on DVD-ROM
IDE2 Slave -

SATA1-80gig WD MCE 2005
SATA2-80gig WD DATA

SATA3 - broken
SATA4 - NEW DVD-RW

when I add the new dvd-rw it will detect my hardrives but it will stop and say "boot from cd" but I can't get any further. if I try different bios settings it will just stop at verifying DMI data. what bios setting do I need to get this drive to work?

--- I had tried this in the gen hardware forum with no answers at all. I had gotten it to work before but I foolishly loaded the bios defaults and cant remember what I did to get it to work. I have been on the computer and internet since 8 this morning trying to fix it and now I have a massive headache.

It will boot if only the 2 hard drives are installed, if I install the IDE dvd-rom it will say disk boot failure. if i install the sata drive it will just say boot from cd and stop.

Can you remove the DVD-ROM and try that?

What's your device Boot order in the BIOS?

If I remove the DVD roms it boots. If I plug in the IDE it does a

"replace system disk a press enter" there is no dvd or cd in the drive.

If i plug in the SATA it will just hang "boot from cd"

the disk boot order is

Hard drive
Hard drive
cd-rom
boot other

the hard drive boot priority is: 1.ch1 hard drive
2.ch 2 hard drive
3.bootable add-in device

UPDATE: the IDE DVD-ROM will now boot successfully, dont know why...just went into the bios to check on boot priority, decided to try it again since i had to restart anyway, plugged it in and voila windows! still trying to figure out why the SATA wont boot though.

SATA 3 and 4 are on the SIL controller, and they don't support ATAPI (cdrom) booting. If you put the DVD on SATA 1 or 2 it will work.

Thanks! switched 'em around and changed some boot sequences and it works!

funny how it can be the small things sometimes.
