Recovered data problem

Recently I backed up some data for a customer before formatting her hard drive. With my luck the external HD had a partition error to occur and the drive had to be formatted. I was able to run my file recovery program on her hard drive but all office documents are encoded and have random characters, no original text at all.

random text names, or random text inside the docs? if inside the docs, they sounds borked to me.

They're just random characters and symbols instead of the normal text inside the document.
