I was wondering, if I upgrade my E4300 to Q6600 or QX6700 and still using the same motherboard,
will I need to reformat / reinstall OS (e.g. windows, Linux) ?
(is this the correct place to ask this? )

naw, it should be drop-in compatible. switching out CPUs is oddly seamless as long as everything else stays the same.

the most you may have to worry about is windows activation popping up.

No problems.... Like Zinn said. At most you "might" trigger Windows to want to reactivate at most.

Thanks, one more question, if I update the mobo bios, will I need to reinstall the OS again?

Should be a no.

Nope, you shouldn't have to.

Regardless of what is or isn't required, backup your stuff.

Thanks, as I expected I don't need to do that. Can't wait for next month as the quad processor price is down to half.

PS: oh I always always back up my files, but I don't like to reinstall because I'm having quad boot (XP, Vista, server 2003, Linux)

Well it's working fine for me,
vmware looks convenient but I like to do it the classic way.
