On my home office computer I game some, watch DVDs, and listen to some music. For games and DVDs it never gets turned up loud, but sometimes I crank the music a bit while working out in the weightroom the next room over.

My home office is a big open room so there is no logical place to put rear channels behind me. I guess they could be hung from the ceiling but there would be some unsightly speaker wires and a ceiling fan is pretty close. The good thing is that the computer desk is built into an alcove in the wall so rear channels could be put on the sides of the alcove. They would pretty much be directly on each side of my head but not behind. Not an optimal set up but should work for 5.1. I guess I'm looking for opinions on if the Klipsch 2.1 sound quality is worth more than the marginal 5.1 sound where I can't really place the rear channels back as far as they should go. Not willing to pay more than $150, so Klipsch 5.1s are not an option.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, or recommendations on good sounding, small & wall mountable 5.1 speakers I would appreciate it. I plan on hooking these speakers up to the Realtek ALC883 on my Abit motherboard. It sounds so good I haven't felt the need to upgrade to discrete audio.

I have the Promedia 2.1's and like them very much for music. I use a different set of speakers for recording and monitoring though. THe Promedia's have a tendency to cut out some mids...but many, many people like their sound for listening to music...including me. I think the Promedia's would be fine for the occasional game and DVD. I also have mine hooked up to my onboard sound and they sound good.

If your mostly listening to music, a dedicated soundcard would be a great addition if your goin with the Klipsch 2.1 system.

Thanks. I ran across a decent Creative Inspire 5.1 set on Ebay last night and nabbed it. It went so cheap I couldn't pass it up. If it works, great, if not it will go on another computer in the house and I'll look at the Klipsch 2.1s.
