So...
Sorry that this went in general hardware, but I've got no idea where else would be appropriate.

Anyhow.. I'm sitting at my screen today, and just noticed a little spec bug ("no-see-um") wandering around on my screen.
I go to brush it off (believe it or not, I have a microfiber soft brush just for dust on the pc)
and find out the things UNDER THE PLASTIC of my 37" westy.
It's moving, so, it's definately not a stuck pixel.

Apparantly, there are BIG GAPING HOLES in the back of my screen for all sorts of creatures to crawl into (I mean, it wouldn't fit a gecko, but some mosquitos? hell yeah.

Now, that might be all well and good, but I guess the front plastic (that's between the actual LCD part and the "outside world") must not be sealed either.

So, I'm wondering, is there something I can, I don't know, spray on the back of my lcd (around the vents, etc) that will scare off insects and not also damage the screen?

Personally, I'd consider this a design defect, since they don't have the "user area" protected, but I doubt westinghouse will "get rid of the bug" for me, and I don't want to have to send the screen off because of a no-see-um, that's turned into a definately-see-um.

Well, since it's about your monitor, I'm moving it to Displays.

Bugs die and gravity takes over. Wait it out.

But to answer your question, no I don't anyone will advise you to spray anything into a monitor, ever.

Maybe use a copper screen or something of the sort over the holes? Anyways move the computer out of your backyard before it rains!!!:p

I wasn't talking about spraying something IN the monitor. I was hoping there was maybe something I could wipe the plastic with that might stick to the PLASTIC that'd scare them away.

My thinking is there has to be some sort of citronella+sex wax hybrid that would do the trick, but I don't know if that would be plastic-safe

What about just using a bug-zapper light thing?

I think most things would actually be fine on plastic. The one exception I know of is DEET, that stuff will melt certain plastics like no one's business (or perhaps it's the other stuff in the DEET can/bottle *shrugs*).

You could try mosquito netting, but pretty sure no-see-ums are too tiny to be blocked.

Just find something that is supposed to work for whatever you think might try to get in there, and then apply a bit to an unseen area and see if it causes damage or not.

Or you know, build a fully sealed box to put the monitor in, and then use a heat exchange radiator system to transfer heat energy in and out, or maybe make the sealed case out of extruded finned aluminum sheet, that would be hot (Paris Hilton hot, not 'omg I'm on fire' hot). :-P
