I'm about to pull the trigger on a Shuttle SD39P2 setup and I plan to do some overclocking. Hence, I am going with a E4400 with its 10X multiplier and a pair of G. SKILL F2-6400CL4D-2GBHK DDR2-800 modules (4-4-3-5) that run at 2.0V. My hope is to crank the CPU up to 3.2GHz using a 320 FSB and a 5:4 memory divider, effectively returning the RAM to DDR2-800. However, I am slightly concerned that the board/HSF of the Shuttle may not be able to handle this level of overclock. But, I am hopeful that it will, since I've seen reports of people running E6600s and such at 3GHz with the stock voltage on the SD37P2V1, with its older and less refined motherboard.

Now, regarding voltages. The voltage options on the RAM are pretty minimal: 2.0V, 2.2V, or 2.4V. I don't plan on running the modules higher than 2.4V (or 2.0V hopefully), so that is just fine. Remember, I'm not OCing the memory, because of the divider. However, a review (http://techreport.com/reviews/2007q2/shuttle-sd39p2/index.x?pg=5) from The Tech Report states, "Things don't get any better on the voltage front, where you can only increase the CPU voltage by up to 0.8V." Now, I am confused. I check the SD39P2's manual and it states that you can increase the voltage from 25mV to 800mV. Ok, that's great, but then why would they be complaining about a CPU voltage boost of 0.8V?! Isn't that WAY past anything a C2D can handle? I hardly see anyone cross 1.6V on the C2D overclocking thread, with most people hovering in the 1.4V-1.5V range. This is the range I too will be attempting to use. But, the (typical) C2D voltage of 1.325V + 0.8V = 2.125V! What am I missing here?? Is my math screwed up somewhere or is there some erroneous reporting on the SD39P2's manual and The Tech Report?

I'm hoping a voltage of around 1.45V will allow me to take the E4400 to 3.2GHz. I simply don't know if I can get that voltage from this mobo/BIOS. If not, I am tempted to do the pad method: http://sg.vr-zone.com/index.php?i=3904
