I've got a low-profile video card with a very loud fan. Could I mount a large piece of copper on it and go fanless? Has anyone done this? Would that disipate enough heat to work?

Er what video card? There are several that are sold that way, especially the low-pro ones. Most low-pro don't use much power anyway. RivaTuner can monitor most cards temps, if they have the chip to support temp monitoring and you want to ghetto rig something up. Try unplugging the fan on the card and see what temps are like...

Should have asked this in video cards - you would get more responses.
