I tried googling for the error messages but, no results.

I don't get it, I get messages like this all the time, They tell me to close gaim, thunderbird, firefox, photoshop, illustrator etc. I always click no, I have the programs open for a reason.

This error would be fine and dandy if I were actually out of ram but it comes up when I'm using 1.36gb/2.00gb of ram. It is super annoying when I am trying to work.

Any ideas on what causes this or how to make these stupid warnings go away for good?

I didn't do a clean install, and it only happens when I have a fair amount of stuff open (but not even close to what I ran under XP). I am fairly sure it isnt' a virus or other malware.

My guess is some sort of memory leak with those programs
or combination of programs.

Try taking those programs out of your startup if there in there and reboot.

What is your memory after say 3 to 5 hours then?

Watch how much memory the sidebar is taking. It should be taking less than 100mb (probably not even that high) of memory. Last night, I was checking to see why my computer was running slowly and the sidebar was using 350mb (after I restarted it, it was only using 40mb so it's a pretty prominent leak with the sidebar or some of its gadgets at least). I know that there have been efforts by MS to reduce the memory leak associated with the sidebar and they have made progress (apparently, it used to often take like 1.2gb of memory), but it's not perfect.

I'd try disabling the sidebar for now and see if that helps.

If you don't have the sidebar turned on, I guess this is just an FYI for the future ;p

No that is not entirely true. Vista takes memory chunks of programs that have been run and learns your behavior over time a la "superfetch". It then deposits these chunks into a cache state for immediate use should you launch that program. Vista manages memory very different then XP or any OS previously released.

If you should need that cached memory for something else Vista releases it to do that job. But over time Vista will relearn any new program habits as you use them.

That is why lots of times your memory useage looks higher then it really is at any given point. It's cached, but that does not mean it's being used. Most memory type programs don't take this model into account. In vista you can drill down in task manager
and actually see the cached memory useage and how it aggregates to the total.

There are several threads rolling around on this. Do a search in the forumn on "superfetch" to lean more.
