Last night i removed Linux off my partition of the Primary drive (C:). When i would boot up i had issues stating that GRUB failed. So i had to remove it thru DOS using the "bootrec /fixmbr" command. While it wokred like a charm, now my Vista is sluggish and takes a little longer to boot up, especially the sidebar. Anyone have a clue whats going on? I removed all partitions and my drive is back to "normal".

Since grub just handles which partitions start what OS's, I don't think it's possible that its absence has had effect on your windows loading things like the sidebar. None of that's going to be GRUB... did you resize the Vista partition or anything?

I did resize the partition. I had to in order to install Ubuntu on it. But i decided to remove it after some use and put in on a dedicated machine. Now it seems like my Vista is running sluggish. i too didnt think that i should have issues with Vista just by removing Ubuntu. Im contemplating re-installing vista on a faster HDD that i have. Ive been meaning to find a reason to do so and this might be it. Now, how would resizing my drive hinder its performance? Ive already resized it back to original and removed all partitions i made before hand.

I don't know why, I just always feel sketchy about resizing an OS partition... reinstalling is like a routine exercise with Windows anyway. Have fun :p

See if the problem goes away after a couple days :)

Vista likes to keep your most frequently used programs (Internet Browser, Sidebar, system files) along the outside edge of your hard drive (where access times are the fastest). Perhaps some files are just getting their physical location shuffled around?

Thanks Calebb, i was thinking the same thing also. But it has been around 2-3 days and its still sluggish in a weird way. Ive run HDD test tools and checkdisk to see if its possible that my HDD might have been screwed up. All checks out fine. Im a bit puzzled and i think i might need a reinstall of Vista. Althought this time i might just go out and buy that WD Raptor that spins at 10K rpm, just for fun. :-) Im gonna go ahead and wait it out for about a another week. If its still acting up, then i will reformat.
