Anybody know where I can get my startup password erased because I forgot it and I sure as hell am not going to go to the Idiot Squad at BestBuy so that I can spend $30 to get my password erased.

Goddamn it!

boot into safe mode and log on as administrator ... people usually forget to set an admin password

to stay in compliance with forum rules ..I'd suggest googling for utility to edit your SAM file if there is an admin password set ..as I don't know if that would be kosher to provide and links here..

I have a boot cd at work that I use for when people give me there computers to fix and they dont tell me their passwords and they have actually set a password on their admin account.

Problem is that even though I try to log on as an Admin it says that my password os wrong. I never set a password!

so you start up in safe mode and click on "Administrator" (not your normal user account) and it asks for a password of which you dont know...?

..then do some googling and you'll find the utility that you need

Go to user accounts in the control panel(or you can do it from the management console), and change the password for the account you usually use.

I would like to thank everyone here for providing some assistance. To zacdl, please don't give links to those programs over the public forums. Thanx again! :D

Gonna create a password reset disk so that I don't forget the newer password again. :)

I don't know what planet you are from, but not only did I not link to that program (which in this case would be fine, I just don't want to make it that much easier for "bad" people to find if they see this thread), you have zero authority to tell me what to do...

What? I just said that some Mods and Admin's could see that the wrong way and ban you. What the hell are you talking about?

OR, you told him not to link:

Like he said.

Anyway, once you are logged in as administrator you can also go to the command prompt and type this:

"net user"

This displays the users. You can then type:

"net user <username> <password>"
OR
"net user <username> *"
followed by
"<password>"
"<password>" (it asks you to re-enter it).

Personally, I didn't see anything "over the top" in this thread, but I'm not a mod so the decision isn't mine. You can smack people for mentioning programs that potentially could be used unethically, but it doesn't make them go away OR eliminate the justified usage of them.

I used one very recently for a dope who wanted to run as the true admin to "keep things simple", and then forgot his password after going on vacation for two weeks because he tries to change it practically every other fragging day.
