I started this thread to see if anyone has some insight as to why blank Dual Layer DVD's aren't dropping in price. It seems like every other blank media enjoyed a time of high pricing, then gradually dropped over time. Heck flash ram prices have been falling like a rock and even standard hard drive prices have fallen considerably, but DL DVD's have consistently remained high.

A quick search before making this post I found
DL DVD-R = $1.43ea
DVD-R = $0.23ea

With Blu Ray or HD-DVD on the horizon, you'd think these prices would start coming down. What's it going to take for this to happen?

That sure would be nice... But, the cheap single layers are great, you must admit

For BR-R or HD-R to at least become available (or even in the works) on PC.

BD-R are already available ... albeit expensive.

The technology is getting bypassed because there are better things around. Like Zip 250 drives, for example; the 100s were big for the time, but by the time 250s were out CD-RWs at 650 MB were commonplace and cheap enough that buying a 250MB drive didn't make sense. I'm not sure why DL DVDs haven't done a little better - bit-perfect copies of movies, anyone? ;) - but when Blu-Ray or HD-DVD prices drop a bit they'll be pretty close to dead for good.

I've highlighted where the answer may lie. Possible?

What are you complaining about? I remember when DL media was $5-$10 PER disc. ~$1 per disc is great compared to what they used to be.
