If you plan to move to vista one day when they MS fixes I would use 32 bit xp for now, but if you were going to hold onto it for a long time and try to get by with never going vista xp-64 will hold you out longer due to the larger memory support.

If you're planning to play them leet DX10 games with your DX10 video card and you don't want to have to install Vista at that time, just get it over with now.

XP64 doesn't do DX10.

XP64 doesn't do DX10.

And not to mention that they driver support is even worse for 64 bit than 32 bit:mad:

Vista.

As said above, you've got DX10 hardware, just as well use DX10 software.

Do it. You'll you'll be glad you did:)

if you are not planning to move to 4GiB of RAM or more, use XP 32.

According to the OP, Vista 32 bit and XP 64 bit are his options, otherwise I would have recommended XP 32bit as well... a more suitable gaming OS, in my opinion.

If you have 32bit vista then you can get 64bit vista shipped to you for a few bucks.

XP 64bit doesn't have very good support. It was more a proof of concept release than anything.
64bit vista is supported right along side 32bit vista. So that is my vote. Order a copy from microsoft for a few bucks or go download a copy. Your cd key will still work.

Exactly how do I get 64-bit vista for a few bucks more? or how would I go about downloading it?

If you buy the retail Vista Ultimate, it comes with both x32 and x64 DVDs.

If you buy the retail of Home Premium (or most of the other flavors except the very lowest), you can go to a Microsoft site and order the 64-bit DVD for the price of shipping, I think $10 or so.

You can also buy the x64 OEM DVDs on Newegg or other sites.

Or just hit up the torrent sites. You already have a legal cd key which is really what you are paying for so I doubt microsoft would care if you downloaded the x64 version.

So long as you have a legal license for Windows Vista you can get the x64 version on an authentic DVD for just a few dollars shipping charge. :)

Also, I accidentally ordered 32-bit Vista for one of my computers. I used a 64-bit disc I had from my main desktop with the key from the 32-bit media and it worked just fine :)

Both were OEM versions.

I would wait on getting the 64 bit version untill the drivers are a little better, and also you will most likely have alot of problems with getting some of your 32 bit apps to work. so if there are some 32 bit apps that you cant live with out you may want to re think about getting the 64 bit version.

Just my thoughts on the subject

I think a massive "Your mileage may vary" disclaimer is required here.

My Vista x64 laptop install does *NOT* give 10fps on all games. Runs like XP did.
