New summer build (Vista Question)

When I do should I go for the 64bit or the 32bit. XP 64bit was a complete mess is Vista 64bit just as bad?

XP64 was "a complete mess"? Hmm.. In my Bizarro world *my* XP64 install is working absolutely perfectly, has up-to-date drivers for everything, benches the same as XP32, and every game I have tried on it so far has worked without issue.

If you are going to take 2+ year old reviews at face value for March 2007, maybe you should stick with Windows 98. :p

Are you one of those people who thinks Vista doesn't have any bugs and windows is the most superior OS out there too?
I wouldn't consider a 2+ year old review when I can walk across the hall and listen to my roomate bitching about how it's such a piece of shit. Where as I've never had any real problems with XP pro/home 32bit.

I believe i have most of the bugs out of vista for my satisfaction, but using it i now see
many problems i did not think of before,an example updated drivers. i wish i had
stuck with xp was having 0 problems there. alot of people complain that companies
arent putting out drivers fast enough i agree- but why didnt windows make this
system where it worked with current software

And I'm telling you XP64 isn't bad and has given me no problems. Maybe your roommate is running different hardware than I am or using different devices, or something else. I use mine for a few games, with a pretty lean hardware setup, and it's fine.

As far as your first sentence, I have no idea how that's relevant to anything. I never said either of those things. I'm telling you what *my* personal experience with *my* XP64 is. If XP64 runs poorly on a certain hardware configuration, I don't think Vista is going to dramatically improve it.

I have Vista x64 on my laptop and it seems to be doing alright. There are a couple of quirks that I think are driver related, but these are not affecting stability or performance. So far everything I have thrown at it has worked. If something isn't going to work, the chances are greater it will be because of Vista in general and not that it's 64-bit.

Many people prefer to buy things they are comfortable with. There's also the "WELL I HEARD FROM SOMEONE THAT XP64 SUCKED SO MAYBE I SHOULD NOT BUY 64-BIT ANYTHING EVER" syndrome. I can understand the hesitation since it's a big change just going to Vista, much less going to 64-bit at the same time. I don't even see 64-bit OS's as being critical at this time. Many people have the same belief. I just happened to have the opportunity to get XP64 and Vista x64 for free or else I'd just be running XP.
