My friend has a really old mac with a 601 processor and like 24mb ram. I was wondering if there is a way I can get the newer mac os like 9 or higher on regular pc and burn it to a cd or put on floppies and install it on the mac? I never use mac so I don't know anything about them. Any help is greatly appreciated.

We have an Apple subforum here, it's just above this one on the main page, that would have been the appropriate place to post this, however...
From my understanding of Macs, that one he has is quite old and most likely won't handle the requirements of 9 or heaven forbid OSX no matter what upgrades are done to it. That process of upgrading would cost more than buying a new Mac probably. :p

Mac OS 9 will probably run on it but it will be crap without at least 64 Megs of Ram

The computer is a 7100/66 power mac power pc. This better describes the problem I think.... cannot open application because program that created it could not be found document cannot be translated problem occured -2048. this is OS 8 that we are trying to install and it's not working. Apple says that the computer will use up to OS 9 as long as he upgrades to 32mb ram which he did. Also any ideas on how to get the lan to work on it? I gues it uses a MO437 adapter to connect to the internet but he said it detects it but will no make use of it.
I installed OS 8.5 on my old beige PowerMac 6500/225 (PPC 601). It didn't have any problems with 48MB RAM. I installed a Kingston 10/100Mbps NIC in it for Internet connectivity. Unfortunately I no longer have that computer or NIC so I can't tell you which model it was.
