I downloaded XBCD drivers and also tried some other drivers. But nothing seems to work.

Im using a wireless 360 controller, but its plugged into the comp by usb, using the play and charge kit. Will this work, or do I need to buy something else?

No, I'm pretty sure the play'n charge kit won't work. That only charges the controller, it doesn't transfer the controllers signals. There is a wireless receiver available for PC, but I don't have a link for it on hand. You can either go with the receiver, or a normal wired controller.

That's right, and here's the link (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2)
If you also have a wireless headset you can use that too once games in windows offer support.

Right this second the wired one is better. There are drivers made by the community that let you map the buttons, sticks, triggers, etc.
The 360 controller is awesome, but it's button setup isn't recognized by a lot of games. Those community drivers help you get around that issue. They don't work for the wireless one (yet), though.

Would it be work good with playing old games thru emulators or would even work at all?

Or what type of pc controller would work with emulators?

It'll work with most emulators, it's just that some buttons (the top triggers) aren't always supported. The reason why is that they're analog, and a lot of games and programs seem to be baffled by 3+ analog functions in one controller.
Still, the wired one has that wacky software that lets you re-map things to make it work with everything. There's a 3rd part application that'll let you re-map a lot of joystick functions (I can't remember the name) but it didn't seem to work for me. the only game profiles that worked were FPS games...which I don't use a pad for.
On a partially related note, the SixAxis works great as a gamepad. It maps the d-pad and analog triggers as buttons and the analog sticks are normal.
If a 3rd party driver can do it with the Sixaxis, I know the wireless 360 pad should eventually get something similar.
