You installed Vista over XP, and now you can't access your documents? Easy; you have to boot into safe mode, and take control of them.

Once you're in safe mode, right-click the folder containing you files, go to properties, and you'll see a security tab that's not there in not-safe mode. Reassign ownership of them to yourself.

Nope i installed it fresh :D, will i still be able to do the permission thing in safe mode if its a fresh install and not an upgrade?

Go to advanced and owner and see what it says, you should be able to change the owner to you from there...

That's your problem. Click you name and hit apply and it will drill down the permissions to the entire drive (may take awhile)

Thanks for the help :P it's all good now. Vista is going to take a bit of getting used to lol.

Happy to be of help. The problem was that I assume your second partition or drive was created with XP and your clean install of Vista gave you a new user identity. Effectively, what you did was take ownership of the drive and the files from the previous (XP) owner. While you had full rights to the drive (otherwise you could not assume ownership at all) the files were still owned by someone else (your old XP self)
