about 1.5 hour ago I decided to try Kaspersky Antivirus on my Vista Ultimate, Installation freezed at halfway, and so did my computer. I forced a restart, after the rollbar comes BSOD, I restarted again, BSOD again, REPEATED.
I could only sneak into the system by safe mode, thats where I deleted the Kaspersky and all of its residues, I thought it'd work this time but same thing.
Literally it destroyed the system, no way in, and now I am back to XP.
Where did I go wrong? no idea. Should I condemn Kaspersky or Vista? I dunt know, I dunt care, here I am writing this post to publish a big WARNING: you might love Vista and Kaspersky, but they don't love each other.

spec is:
P5B Deluxe WiFi
Core 2 Duo E6600
XFX 8800GTS 320MB Extreme
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320G 16MB

What does your hardware situation look like?

The more details the better, but at the very least:

Power Supply
Hard Drive
Motherboard
Video Card(s)

Kaspersky is on the compatibility list so don't know why you had issues and others haven't.

Isn't there an option to do "Last known good configuration" like in XP?

I am running Vista 32-bit and Kaspersky Anti-Virus no problem. Did you use the retail version? The retail version is not Vista compatible. You need to download the Vista version at Kaspersky's website.

Is there a repair version of Vista? If so, you may want to try that method.

Ok the BSOD disappeared too soon I couldnt read eveything but "dumping memory" and a percentage reading from 0%-100% by 5% a tick, whole thing stayed about 2 seconds and screen goes black to restart.

Seeing you guys are all fine with KIS it's probably that I had the incompatible version, but the situation scared me, I first thought my harddrive died because I heard a loud "clipping" sound from the HD when the installation freezed but later I could still copy and paste stuff in safe mode. I figured I'd deleted KIS in safe mode so I removed every folder of KIS, I even cleaned the registry manually in hope for a cure, nothing worked, I was out of solutions so I went back to XP.

Vista? probably 6 months later, for me.

It's been a hard and fast rule since XP was released, that one of your first steps on a new build is to disable automatic reboots. If not, you're just hiding the troubleshooting information from yourself.

how do you disable automatic reboot?
I knew that was coming.

My Computer > Properties > Advanced Settings > Advanced > Startup And Recovery

Uncheck the Automatic Reboot.
