first off i hope this is the right forum, it looked closest to what I'm dealing with.

Well my parents have moved in with me temp as they sort through their stuff to see what they'll trash and what they'll take with them as they retire to Texas. They both got new laptops, running windows vista home premuim, and somehow my Pop has broken his IE already. Don't believe it's a virus. Both laptops were working perfectly on my wireless router, and now his give a 400 error: bad file request every time he tries to connect to internet. His laptop shows a good wireless connection, but everytime he types google or yahoo or whatever, he gets this error. Mom's laptop continues to work no problem.

I've already done the tech support dance with HP, uninstalling/reinstalling wireless adaptor/drivers/winsock/etc. No avail. HP said it was Microsoft's puppy. And that recovery was the only fix. (Recovery in this instance is basically wiping the HD and reinstalling the factory new image). Will do that but was hoping before i went to that bullshit someone might know what cuases a 400 error when all indications show a good connection to internet? Keep in mind the exact same laptop model (Mom's) has no problems, so it isn't my wireless router/network setup. My guess is my Dad downloaded a browser plug in that fucked things up, but can't remember just what it was. Any help is appreciated, thx.

Not too sure, I experienced an issue where I could not connect to any websites after being on for an hour.

I exited IE and went to run IE again and it gave me an error message that it could not find the location of IE as if it were deleted.

I simply logged off and back on again and that problem went away.

I had also experienced a flash issue where it was working normally and then I went to YouTube to watch a video and got the flash not installed message.

I went to Tools->Manage Add-ons->Enable or Disable Add-ons and Flash was there enabled and supposedly working fine.

I tried reinstalling flash, that did not work. Tried rebooting, same result. Then I ran the flash unistaller from Adobe and then reinstalled flash and now works again.

I guess I would look at plug-ins see if something was installed or scan for viruses or adware. If your adware and virus scans come up empty I would give system restore a shot and see if that solves it.

Sorry, none of those issues are what I'm dealing with. And unfortunetly system restore is turned off by default with this laptop, so there were no restore points set. Thx anyways.

Update: Firefox portable works fine, so connection to internet and my wireless router is not the issue.

*sigh* this is why I wanted to get the laptops with XP pro, but NOOOOOO, HP had to have vista preloaded........and get this, if XP is loaded on the laptops, IT VOIDS THE WARRANTY:mad:
