Currently I have vista buisness installed. Some of the stuff i need for school and a few other games I play occasionally do not work correctly Under vista.

What would be the best way to get xp on the machine?

I was thinking of using Computer Management to resize the partition then installing XP on that, but I know that would change the boot sector and im not completely sure on how to repair that to get vista back in charge to use its bootloader.

Anyone out there able to help with it?

First of all, there are about five thousand "How to dual boot XP and Vista" threads here already, many of which would answer your questions... but anyhooo...

You cannot re-size your OS partition using Computer Management, it's impossible, that's what applications like Partition Magic, or the free, and better in my opinion GParted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/) are for. But in all honesty, creating a partition for XP after Vista is installed is the least of your problems. As almost every single dual boot thread here will tell you, you MUST install your legacy os first in order for the bootloader to work correctly.

There is a walkaround, however. Read this (http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1030682044&postcount=14) post, and hopefully it will help.

Of course, alot of people around here have been using VirtualPC 2007 to run XP virtually, so you might want to look into that as well....

I had searched, none of them answered my question correctly. Yes you can resize your partition using integrated computer management. Have been able to for awhile. The games i want to run do not correctly work in a virtual enviroment as they are 3D.

Well, I would think that the post I linked you to should solve your problems. It was posted earlier, the thread is still on page one of this sub forum.

And I may have misunderstood your point about partition sizing, and yes, you can "shrink" a partition using computer management, so I shall eat my words on that one.

Anyhow, you can try the method I linked you to, and honestly, that is the only way I know of to get your bootloader set up correctly if the legacy os is not installed first, and from what I can tell, it looks like it should work.

Okie, Ill give it a shot. Thank you for your help.

But also, is it possible to use windows Vista disc to do a repair, and have it repair it like that? I belive i used that method before when useing linux and XP duel booting.
