Just installed new raptor and I am searching for a way to disable native command queing (NCQ). I have read lots of threads both here and elsewhere asking the same question but none of the answers seem to work. I have tried looking in the bios and found nothing close to it, and looked in the device manager IDE/ATA controllers properties yet see no options for NCQ. I know NCQ is supported on this drive and Nforce 4 mobos (see sig), so I have to believe it is running. Benches on anandtech and storage review show a performance hit and both recommend disabling it so I want it off. Any suggestions?
thanks

NCQ should be in a tab within your SATA controller properties under IDE/ATA controllers within Device Manager. You should find a checkbox that says Command Queuing and uncheck it.

Under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers I have 3 Primary IDE channels, 3 secondary IDE channels, and 3 Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controllers. I have looked at properties on all of these (General, Advanced, Drivers, Details, Resources). I see nothing about NCQ or command queing to tick or untick.

if your SATA ports are listed as "IDE" ports, chances are that NCQ is already disabled.

Any way to verify that?

It's enabled by default on my NF4 board, so probably yours as well, but then again my SATA controller shows under IDE Devices. How about under "SCSI and RAID Controllers" or under "Disk Drives"?

Well I found it. Installed NV IDE storage driver (which I usually opt not to when installing chipset drivers) to see if a different SATA controller would give more options and it worked. Now have the option to disable command queing. Now if I can just get rid of that "safely" remove hardware icon in the toolbar (safely remove my HD??WTF).

Since the SATA controller supports hot-swapping that icon shows up. You supposedly can remove the icon by right-clicking the tray area and selecting "Customize Notifications", however mine is grayed-out for whatever reason and since I have a USB card reader it'd be there anyway.
