Help with Compaq PSU

Hi, I am building a new PC and am trying to recycle my old Compaq case and PSU. It is a 250w PSU so is up to powering my new setup - AMD 64 X2 3800+, 1GB RAM, HDD, DVD and an ASRock AM2NF6G-VSTA mobo.

I have a big problem and noone seems to know the answer.

The Compaq PSU (PDP116P) has a 24pin connector that is solid, so I can't detach the last 4pins. It also has a 4pin connector labelled P3 with two orange and two black wires in. The mobo has a 20pin connector and also needs the 4pin ATX12V1 connection.

I have posted some pics below as I can't replace the PSU alone as it is a bespoke size. I would need a new case too.

double check with the pictures carefully to make sure I didnt screw up before ordering. Doing a search of "power adapter" on the newegg main page will bring up all available products.

Hi. I'm looking at the silverstone adaptor. How would it work exactly? I can see it turns the 24pins into a 20+4pin. Is it the +4pin that extends to the ATX12V? Or is it going to be the P3 cable as stated in my first post?

Opps sorry use the P3 orange and black wire leads on the power supply, thats the aux 12V lead. The "extra" 4 pin part of the 20+4 part will not be used, cover ends with electrical tape and just put it out of the way somewhere or fold it back onto the main wire bundle and tye wrap it in place so no chance of it touching someting metal.

I started to mention it but didnt before, you can, if you really really want to get going on your project, use a hot knife and cut off the extra 4 pins on that 24 pin connector. Minor skill and patience are required but the results work fine.

Hi. Looking back at the pics there are two ends to the adaptor. One has a mark on it, the far left of the pic which shows the top of the ATX connection where it says P1.

The wires at the far left near the mark which says CP-011 over the very first pin are three browns and a blue.

The other side are brown, white, pink, red/white striped. I assume it is these that I remove?

I notice looking at the top... so the pic with "P1" showing, the eight pin along has no wire going into it. Is it still suitable to cut the last four off or should I get an adaptor?

I'd be careful with that psu, i had a friend have it replaced 2 times because of voltage issues, system wouldn't start up sometimes and soemtimes it would. Fried the mobo 2 times nothing but a pain. I have his last 250watt psu here that compaq said worked great but still had issues with stability so i just replaced it and worked fine since.
